A St. Benedict at Auburndale student was killed in a single-vehicle accident on April 13, the school confirmed this week.
Philip Nelson Allen Jr., 15, a member of the Class of 2022, died after the vehicle he was traveling in hit a tree on Raleigh-LaGrange Road near Collierville Arlington Road.
Two others were transported to Regional One Medical Center in non-critical condition.
According to his obituary, Philip is survived by his parents, Leigh and Philip, and brother, Cole, all of Collierville; grandparents Phil and Judy Allen of Paragould, Ark., George and Donna Abbott of Collierville; great-grandmother Reba Allen Pillow of Paragould, Ark. and great-grandfather Thomas Dale of Germantown.
A former student of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, at SBA he participated in track and was a member of the trap team. Phillip was a strong academic student, loved playing guitar, and was working on getting his private pilot’s license.
Philip’s goal was to serve his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He also loved keeping up with current events and was most interested in politics.
Philip loved spending time with his friends and family. His obituary shares some of his favorite moments were spent at Dewitt Spain Airport with his Papa George, flying and learning about aircraft. His other favorite past time was spending time at Lake Norfork with his JuJu, Daddy Phil, and all of his cousins.
His memorial mass will place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.
