The Collierville Dragons knocked off Center Hill, Miss. 25-24 on Friday in overtime to improve to 2-0 on the season. With the game always within one score of a lead change, the Dragons went into halftime ahead 18-12.
It was a back-and-forth game all night, with the Mustangs sticking to the running game and the Dragons relying heavily on the arm of Mitch Austin to move the ball down the field.
The Dragons forced turnovers on fumbles but weren’t able to convert those to points and at the end of regulation the score was tied 18 all.
The Mustangs used a quarterback sneak to push in the final six inches on fourth and goal in Overtime. Without a strong kicker, they were forced to go for two points. The Dragons laid on the heat and stopped them cold, leaving Collierville trailing by six when they took possession in overtime.
With another fourth and goal, Duple Travillion took the direct snap and with an outstretched arm broke the plane for six points, allowing Caleb Myers to boot the extra point for the win.
The Dragons will face off against Central High next week.
